Giving and Generosity

November 25, 2024 | Harvest

When We Give
We serve a generous God who delights in giving good gifts! Generosity is at the heart of the Christian life. Jesus Himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35 NKJV). When we give, we reflect God’s character, participate in His work, and experience blessings that transform our hearts and lives.

Here are just some of the ways giving impacts the church, the world, and us personally.

When We Give, Our Hearts Are Changed
Generosity changes us. Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21 NKJV). When we give, our priorities shift. We let go of materialism and embrace a deeper trust in God as our provider. Giving is an act of faith, reminding us that everything we have belongs to Him and that He will meet all our needs. Over time, as we give regularly and joyfully, we see our hearts align more with God’s purposes and desires.

When We Give, The Church Is Built Up
The church thrives when God’s people are generous. Our gifts make ministry possible—whether it’s funding outreach programs, supporting children’s ministries, providing resources for worship, or maintaining a place for fellowship and discipleship. In Acts 2:44-45, we see how the early church shared their resources to meet the needs of the community, creating a strong foundation for spiritual growth. Today, our giving continues to strengthen and sustain the church as a light of hope in the world.

When We Give, The Gospel Goes Forth
Every gift fuels the mission of the church to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Romans 10:15 reminds us, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!” (NKJV). When we give, we help spread the message of salvation—locally and globally. Our generosity enables evangelism efforts and equips the church to reach more people with the gospel.

When We Give, We Become More Like Jesus
Jesus gave everything for us. He laid down His life so we could be saved and reconciled to God. When we give, we follow His example and reflect His selflessness. Philippians 2:3-5 calls us to have the same mindset as Christ, considering others before ourselves. Each act of generosity molds us to be more Christlike, teaching us humility, compassion, and love for others.

When We Give, God Is Glorified
Ultimately, giving glorifies God. Our generosity is an act of worship, acknowledging His lordship over our lives and possessions. 2 Corinthians 9:13 says, “As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ” (NLT). When we give, we point others to God’s goodness and inspire gratitude and praise.

The Blessing of Giving
As if participating in God’s work weren’t enough, giving brings blessings to our own lives. Proverbs 11:25 promises, “The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself” (NKJV). The blessing isn’t just financial—it’s the joy, peace, and fulfillment that comes from partnering with God to impact His kingdom.

At Harvest Church, giving is an essential part of how we live out our faith and carry out our mission to know God and make Him known.
