FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Read the following information if you have questions about being baptized at Harvest Church.
Why should I get baptized?
Here are three reasons to be baptized:
- Baptism is a declaration that you identify yourself with Christ, His message, and His church. Being baptized is a way to tell the world that you are intentional and resolved in your decision to follow Him. Jesus said, “Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.”
- Jesus Himself was baptized. In Matthew 3:13-15, Jesus gave us an example to follow as He was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist.
- Jesus commanded believers to be baptized. Before going back to Heaven, Jesus commissioned His followers to go into the world and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Who can be baptized?
Baptism is for those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It’s for believers who have made a personal decision to follow Him.
What is the method of baptism used at Harvest Church?
We practice immersion baptism, where the person being baptized is fully immersed in water. This method reflects the biblical example of Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan River.
Is baptism necessary for salvation?
Baptism is an important step of obedience for believers, but it doesn’t save you. Salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8-9). Baptism is an outward expression of that inward faith.
Can my child be baptized?
Like adults, children must make a personal decision to follow Jesus before being baptized. Children should have an understanding of what baptism means and should be able to verbally express the reasons why they wish to be baptized. The age at which this happens may vary, but it is important that baptism is meaningful for and chosen by the child. Please bring your child to speak with a pastor if there is uncertainty in this area.
What should I wear for my baptism? Do I bring a towel?
We recommend wearing clothing that is modest and that you are comfortable being immersed in, such as a t-shirt and shorts. You can bring a towel to dry off with, but we will also have towels available for those who don’t have o
Can I invite friends and family to witness my baptism?
Absolutely! You are encouraged to invite friends and family to share in this significant moment.
What happens during the baptism?
During the baptism, you will enter the water, and a pastor will briefly explain the significance of baptism, ensure that you understand its meaning, and reaffirm with you your desire to follow Jesus Christ. You’ll then be baptized by immersion in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Can I get re-baptized if I’ve already been baptized before?
Re-baptism is a personal choice. Some people choose to be re-baptized as a recommitment to their faith if they have fallen away from the Lord. If you were baptized as an infant or child and do not remember the experience or had no choice in the decision, we recommend you be baptized again so that you can publicly and definitely affirm your desire to follow Jesus.
Is there a fee for baptism?
No, there is no fee for baptism. It is a free and significant step in your walk with Jesus Christ.
